Meeting Saturday 4/18 and Other Items

Hi Everyone,

This is your monthly meeting reminder. We hope that you will join us this Saturday April 18th at The Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis for the monthly meeting of the Chesapeake Woodturners. This month, rescheduled after the unfortunate cancellation of our February meeting, we are thrilled to present Margaret Lospinuso who will be demonstrating "......Critters, New Discoveries, New Skills, and No Regrets!" The meeting will start at 9:15 a.m. as usual.

A couple of other items:

We have been asked once again by The Howard County Conservancy to donate items for their “Wine in the Woods” auction and fundraising event. Our pieces were a huge hit at the event last year and they have asked if we could participate again at this year’s event on May 28th. The Howard County Conservancy is a local, non-profit environmental education center and land trust that was founded by a group of local citizens in 1990. Their mission is to educate children and adults about the natural world, preserve the land and its legacy and model responsible stewardship of the environment. This year, 2015 is their 25th Anniversary. If you are interested in participating, please get any pieces that you would like to donate to me by the May meeting on 5/16/15. I have attached their form to this email.

Thanks to Phil Brown who let us know about the call for entries for the Creative Crafts Council (CCC). The call for entries is open until midnight April 20th. This is an excellent opportunity to locally market some of your work and to expose it to the public, if this objective is on your wood turning agenda. Wood furniture and sculpture is also welcome. Eligibility information and the application is at: www.creativecraftscouncil.org. They have an online application process. Here are a few things you should know.

• • You may save an uncompleted application and come back to it another day.

  • You must make required entries on each page of the application before being allowed to move on, but can change entries later as desired.

  • Up to four pieces may be submitted. Your pieces must have been produced since January 1, 2013 and be for sale.

  • Prepare a paragraph about your artistic process with a maximum length of 500 characters, including spaces.

  • Write a brief biography in paragraph form, also with a maximum length of 500 characters.

  • Edit images in JPEG format to at least 800x800 pixels in size with a maximum file size of one megabyte. Neither dimension of the image should be less than 800 pixels in length. One or two images may be submitted for each object.

  • You receive 60% of the sales price, so set your price high enough to realize your goal.

  • The final step is paying a non-refundable $35 fee for MCW and CAW members, or $50 for nonmembers of any CCC affiliated guild. Chesapeake Woodturners is not currently a member.

We will be raffling off several items from a few of our demonstrators over the last season. Also, please bring some Show and Tell items to the meeting as we are always the most appreciative audience you will find.

Finally, I hope you are all enjoying your spring and are hard at work planning the election speeches that all you nominees will be making at the May meeting. It's alot of fun being involved in the planning and leadership for our organization and we would like to see each you become a part of the future of our group.
