John Kerr - Load Binder - February 2018

These photos illustrate a pair of load binders that I use to compensate for the low positioning of tie-down devices in many pickup trucks.

Each is made from one 8’-0” 2x6 and a scrap of plywood.

The plywood is mortised and glued, and is critical to keeping the assembly rigid, and to keeping downward pressure somewhat even across the load. It is also critical that the top and bottom corners are well rounded over.

Rounding over the bottom corners will protect finish grade sheet goods and sheets of gypsum drywall; and rounding over the top corners will prevent damage to your tie-down straps (very critical).

Two attached photos show twenty-four 12’ 2x6’s securely loaded in my 6’-6” truck bed.
